Jehangir’s journey: from Industrial Machinery Manufacturing to navigating maritime innovation
When Jehangir Abid joined Norsepower a year and a half ago, he stepped into a world of innovation and sustainability that was completely new to him. With a background in mechanical engineering, he was excited by the challenge and opportunity of working at the forefront of the maritime industry. Today, as a Fleet Supervisor, Jehangir plays a key role in overseeing vessels equipped with Norsepower Rotor Sails™, ensuring smooth operations, maintenance, and customer satisfaction.
Jehangir’s role is as dynamic as the sea itself. He thrives on the variety of his work—whether travelling for installations, carrying out maintenance (sometimes clocking over 100 travel days a year), or troubleshooting complex issues from the office. “One of the best parts of my job is the travel, but my favourite destination is still home,” he says with a smile. Each project is a learning experience, and he’s constantly evolving in areas like automation and mechanical systems. “If I don’t know something, I can always rely on my team for support.”
Learning and growing with Norsepower
One of Jehangir’s most memorable projects at Norsepower was a particularly challenging maintenance trip. With only a small team—himself, a Service and Commissioning Engineer, and a subcontractor—they had a heavy workload to tackle in a short time. “There was a lot to do, but we finished everything on time. It felt good to know I was making a real contribution to the company.” This sense of accomplishment is a recurring theme in Jehangir’s work, especially when troubleshooting and finding solutions to technical issues. Every problem solved brings a sense of pride and fuels his passion for learning more.
Although Jehangir has years of experience in commissioning and maintenance, he emphasizes that his journey at Norsepower has been a continuous learning experience. “I’ve grown so much, particularly in automation, which wasn’t my biggest strength. I’m always asking questions and seeking out more knowledge.” His hunger for learning is what drives him to push boundaries and take on new challenges.
Making an Impact
Jehangir’s calm approach to problem-solving, coupled with his hands-on expertise, has made him an invaluable asset to Norsepower. “I work directly with customers, and I’ve learned how to navigate complex issues with ease. It’s critical work that often happens behind the scenes, but it’s vital for the company’s success.” His work doesn’t just ensure that the technology functions properly; it also helps build trust and strengthen relationships with clients, contributing to Norsepower’s larger goals of sustainability and innovation.
Team Spirit at Norsepower
The strong sense of teamwork is something Jehangir values deeply at Norsepower. Having worked in various settings before, he notes that the level of collaboration and support here is unlike anything he’s experienced. “Everyone gives their all and supports each other,” he says. “There’s a great team spirit, especially within my team. We spend a lot of time together, and it shows in how we work.” For Jehangir, this environment means there’s still room for growth, but that’s part of what makes it exciting. It’s not just about doing a job—it’s about building something meaningful together.
Advice for Future Norsepowerians
To anyone considering joining Norsepower, Jehangir has some valuable advice: “If you enjoy travel and hands-on work, this is the place for you.” He emphasizes that Norsepower isn’t just about mechanical engineering—it’s a chance to learn about everything from composites to marine technology. “You’ll learn a lot, not just about your own area but also about the maritime industry as a whole.”
